Taking Control

I haven't been able to get into the mood to do my assignment for my first class tomorrow. My MBA program started last week and the first assignment is due tomorrow by six o'clock tomorrow afternoon. I am a procrastinator by nature but recently I haven't been able to get myself in the mood to do anything other than eat and sleep.

After some reflection, I realize that the problems I am having getting motivated stem from the fact that I feel life is controlling me when I should be in control of my life. I have been trying to lose weight...but life gets in the way. I have been trying to do things around the house...but life gets in the way. I am trying to go back to school...but life gets in the way.

This evening, I went outside and sat out in the spa to do some thinking and realized I am not depressed, although it feels somewhat like it because I want to eat and sleep all of the time, but I am upset that I am not in control of my life. While admittedly, I am not in a tailspin by any means, I just don't have the control I need to have so that I can move forward in the most efficient manner.

As most of you know, my current field of employment is shaky at best. While I can do nothing about the current state of my employer, I can position myself to be ready for any situation that might come my way. I will not be blindsided again. I can control my attitude toward school so that I can get as much out of it as possible. I can control my gym regime and eating habits so that I can lose the weight I would like to and gain the added self-esteem that comes with it.

Reading several of my recent posts, I realize I have allowed myself to become less positive that I would like. Hopefully, that changes tonight!

I went to the doctor the other day and I weigh more than I ever have in my life. I have been trying to go to the gym daily and eat better but have been having real problems keeping myself on track. I am hoping this post will help keep me on track!!

Work Ethic

I am noticing that the work ethic in my field seems to be suffering. I know that this is a market environment that many in my field (including myself) have not seen before. That said, I will work just as hard in a down market knowing that it will pay off in the good times.

Many of our reps have become non-responsive. I know it must be difficult to work hard for very little money but at the same time if you sign up for a job...you need to do it to the best of your ability. Maybe I am living in a dream world...

This continues to disillusion me about the field of work I am currently involved in. I always thought we were helping people...every day it becomes more and more obvious that most in the field were not in the business to help people but help themselves.

Many of the industry are looking at potential jail time for their actions in the past few years. Though I have not been involved in any of these activities I have a stigma attached to my name because I worked in mortgage banking.

As I start my path toward my MBA tomorrow, I am also trying to begin a new career path - maybe in a field such as Human Resources. I know I may have to start from the bottom again...but it will be worth it to again be in a field where I can be of help to someone!!

Complacency

Complacency: self-satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies

As most of you know, myspace now allows you to display to others your current mood. It provides many different adverbs to allow you to describe your current situation or state of mind. When looking through the list (which is huge) this weekend, I chose complacent. I thought it accurately portrayed my current state of mind.

I thought nothing of it until I watched the movie "Swing Vote" this weekend. For those of you who may not have heard of it (this is assuming anyone still even looks at this blog since it has been almost a year since my last update), the (overly simplified)premise of the movie is that the presidential election has come down to one state, and the state cannot certify it results because the vote of one man was not recorded accurately. The two candidates start pandering to this man who has absolutely no clue about anything that is going on in the world around him. The experience helps him be able to overcome his complacency. I'd tell you more but don't want to ruin the movie. While not the best movie of the year, I do think that it should be required viewing in high school government courses.

Watching this movie made me realize how I did not want to be complacent any longer. Some days I feel like these days I am just going through the motions. I feel that I have been floating along since last August when my former employer went bankrupt. In November, I was lucky enough to find another job in my field and while I enjoy it, I am almost to the point where I have outgrown it. I have found that on average after about 6 months, I can perform my job on autopilot and grow tired of the day to day redundancy. Unfortunately, because of the current state of my industry and the economy as a whole, it is my best interest to stay the course. I do see some opportunities on the horizon...just would like for them to reveal themselves sooner rather than later. I know, I know...good things come to those who wait. To my credit, I am doing what I can to expedite the process and working toward a goal. I start work on my MBA in two weeks! In February 2010, I will have my long awaited Master's degree...and hopefully some added opportunity to show for it!

Going forward, I will do my best never to become complacent. There is always something one can do to better themselves and improve their situation. Self-satisfaction I can live with - being unaware of the actual dangers surrounding me and my own deficiencies I cannot.

300 Days

300 days since my last post. My last post that I notice promises a "real" post the next day. Not only was there not a "real" post, there wasn't a post at all.

And now it is almost a year later...so much has changed...so much has stayed the same. Time to get caught up!!

Church Gossip

Mildred, the church gossip, and self-appointed monitor of the church's morals, kept sticking her nose in to other people's business. Several members did not approve of her extra curricular activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence.

She made a mistake, however, when she accused George, a new member, of being an alcoholic after she saw his old pickup parked in front of the town's only bar one afternoon. She emphatically told George (and several others) that everyone seeing it there would know what he was doing.

George, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just turned and walked away. He didn't explain, defend, or deny... he said nothing.

Later that evening, George quietly parked his pickup in front of Mildred's house... walked home... and left it there all night.

Ya gotta love George.

Premier Week!

Premier week has been great...even better than most as when you are unemployed evening tv can be what you live for!

I missed Chuck earlier this week. TiVo was having issues. I plan to watch it online tomorrow. The other new shows I am excited about are:

Private Practice - Thought they did a good job with Addison's exit from Seattle Grace. High hopes for this one.
Pushing Daisies - Have to wait a couple more weeks for this one.
Back to You - This one looks good...I miss the good sitcoms!

And of course the old favorites are back too!

Grey's Anatomy - Again thought they did a good job with the characters exiting the series. Looks to be a fun season!!

ABC has done a great job not only in these videos but also in the music selections for their shows. If you watch and listen closely the way they integrate the music into the television shows is amazing. Grey's Anatomy is the master of this! I remember one scene in which Meridith had to remove a bomb out of someone and the lyrics perfectly matched the scene.

Can you tell I am excited about premier week!! My only disappointment thus far is that the cable was having issues last night and I missed the first episode of Chuck!!

What a ride...

Life, like my posting has been very lackadaisical lately. Things have changed greatly since my last post. As most of you know my company shut down operations on August 16 and filed for bankruptcy a few days later. Looking back, August 16th, though one of the saddest days of my life, was almost a relief. I had known since the market turned the first week of August that our company was at risk to the market movement. I worried for almost three weeks before the official announcement was made. It was a relief finally knowing where we stood.

Life in the past month has been strange. After being layed off, I almost immediately turned down a job in South Carolina. In my heart I knew that moving back to South Carolina was not in my best interest.

I have taken several short trips in the past month. After being home a week and deciding I might go crazy sitting still, I used some frequent flyer miles and went to visit my Aunt Lisa and family in Fresno, CA. It was a good time to be with family.

I also spent a pre-planned weekend with Shan, Cody, and Jaymeson in Dallas at Six Flags. It was great. The boy loved every ride he was tall enough to ride! It was awesome to ride roller coasters with him! I can't believe he is growing up.

My friends and family have had some difficult issues this month as well that have weighed heavily on my heart. I won't go into it but to all of you, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

In addition, some friends have gone through similar situations with their jobs in the mortgage industry. In dealing with their frustration, they have chosen to use their blogs to vent their frustrations to the point of alienating their friends by their choice of words. I cannot judge these persons because I understand first hand the frustrations they may be feeling. Instead of getting angry, I am choosing to use it as a learning lesson as to how to manage frustration appropriately.

To update you on the job search, I do have a couple of irons in the fire. Hopefully I will know more soon. I am in a good position and can make it to the end of the year with little difficulty. I am learning to take a break and enjoy the time off...though surprisingly that can be difficult some times. Who knew! It is strange to think that when I am working I can't wait for the vacation and know that I have an extended period of free time, I can't wait to go back to work!

Bottom line, I know that many have been worried about me. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers. Things are going well and I am hopeful for that future!

I remember know why I like blogging. Not only does it keep an record of the fun times in life, it is an outlet to keep in touch with friends and family. I hope to be back on the bandwagon!!

Have you ever had this kind of day?

I woke up this morning perfectly happy. Last night was interesting. I was so tired I felt like I dies when I hit the bed. I slept very soundly until I had the dream. I was dreaming someone was teaching me how to water the cactus outside. We were watering the cactus with a hose (why we were watering the cactus I have no idea). While watering, I noticed that a snake was wrapped around the cactus. I was fine with the snake. What I wasn't fine with was that when I stepped back another snake jumped toward me...I literally jumped out of bed!! That dream is the only thing I can think of that made my day go the way that it did. When I got to work my demeanor almost immediately changed. I was in a horrible mood. I knew this but could not seem to do anything about it. It took me all day to pull myself out of my bad mood. I hate days like that.

It made me almost fall off the wagon. I haven't had a coke - and by coke I mean the southern coke that stands for any type of pop (thought I would use the midewestern lingo as well) in almost two weeks. I stood firm! I have to give myself props on that one!

I think I am just exhausted from moving and it caught up with me today! At least I am feeling better now...and promise not to have one of these days for a long time to come!

A New Home

After weeks of negotiations, I am now the owner of my very own home!! I purchased a condo last Tuesday. 3 bedrooms/2 baths! I will have pictures soon!! I moved in this weekend! I absolutely love it!!

Suffice it to say that I have been a bit preoccupied but I am going to do my best to get back to the blogging world! I have missed everyone!!

Tribute to Melinda!

Wow! What a shocker...for the second year in a row the best singer has been voted off American Idol before their time.

I will admit that I was very upset on Wednesday and quite frankly still don't care if I watch the finale now but I have to remember that Chris Daughtery should have won last year. Look where he is on the top of the charts....where is Taylor Hicks? Melinda will do well....this was not the end for Melinda.

As an added bonus, the AI tour will be in Phoenix the day of my birthday...guess where I will be!!!

I did make myself watch American Idol tonight. I may be sick...but I'm not dead!! I do believe we now have a competition going!! Melinda was still my top pick but Blake, Jordin, and Chris were right there with her!

Sanjaya was the worst...but I have a feeling Phil will leave. The judges were right...the song was good but there didn't seem to be any feeling behind it. He just doesn't seem to connect with the audience. I love Gina but she needs to be careful that she doesn't fall into the same trap.

My bottom three...Sanjaya, Haley, and Phil. Of course Sanjaya should leave....but Phil most likely will.

Life is interesting! You take the good with the bad. Isn't it nice when the good outweighs the bad? Yesterday was quite the day for me...some bad things happened...some good things happened. When reflecting today, I started to let the bad things take over and forget about the good things that happened yesterday with the potential to ruin my Saturday. A few hours ago, I decided just to go take a ride and sort things out. I drove in the mountains of Tucson for a couple of hours and reflected. It is amazing how the crisp mountain air will clear your head. I am blessed with great family, great friends, a great job. Life is good!

I was reading some old entries and this one stuck out at me. The sentiment is awesome!

I gained a lot of respect for Gwen Stefani tonight. Wow - she is gorgeous! I have never seen her outside of her traditional performance attire. She also seemed to have a good understanding of the contestants and the music they were singing.

I thought the worst performance of the night was Chris Sligh (you thought I was going to say Sanjaya didn't you). I would not be surprised if he left tomorrow. Best of show goes to Melinda (of course) followed by Phil , Jordin, and LaKisha.

And no matter what Simon said...Melinda looked good!

By the way - I voted for her 30 times. Yes, I understand I have no life.

Monday, Monday

Wow - where did today go? It seemed to fly by!

It started with a follow up visit to the eye dr. 20-15 vision baby - everything looks great. I don't have to go back for six months!!

Work was crazy - good crazy - I love the new job! I even bought a small refridgerator for my office today... this in addition to the boombox I ordered for my satellite radio. Yes, I know a little bit much - but I have never had an office before....how cool is that.

Ok - I promise to quit acting like a child...but I don't promise to grow up (even if I do have an office) :)

I have the utmost respect for these two people. It is amazing how they are able to stand tall in the midst of tragedy and move forward. From cancer to losing their son far too early in life, they have handled everything with grace. Win or lose - this is the character we should expect of someone who lives in the White House.

Rent!

I saw the touring production of Rent this evening. I have seen the show in New York as well as the movie but I enjoyed seeing it this time as much as I did the first time! Only one disappointment - the two actors that played Mark and Roger left a little to be desired. I can't remember if I have made this comment before but as I was a music major - it is hard for me to enjoy a show like the majority of the population. I instinctively judge the performances rather than sit back and enjoy. On the flip side of the coin, I have the privilege to really enjoy the performances of some really talented actors. The actors who portrayed Angel and Maureen were very good. The actress who portrayed Mimi - stole the show - man she was good.

It was a great show! I am so glad to be somewhere that provides access to these types of performances - right down the road from my house. How awesome is that!

Because of my travels, work related and otherwise, I have not given my blog, myspace, e-mail, phone messages the time they deserve. It has taken me several weeks at times to return phone calls and e-mail which I normally responded to within a day. The good news...my life should be returning to normal....so my response time will be much better. I know you guys miss hearing from me! :)

Tucson

So with the new position...it looks like I will be staying in Tucson for a while. I am good with that. I will miss the opportunity to be closer to family and friends....which sucks....I had been trying to move closer to home for several years...but I think this opportunity will be well worth it. Plus more and more of my friends are talking about coming to visit...which I am very excited about!

Because I hadn't planned to be here for much longer than a year, I haven't put down any deep roots. Now it is time to start looking for a house, making friends, and start calling this place home.

I have to say Tucson is a beautiful place to live...the mountains are gorgeous...with sunsets like I have never seen before. The thunderstorms during the monsoon season are awesome. And the restaurants and shopping aren't bad either.

I'm excited about the possibilities. I have figured out that everything in life happens for a reason...I am ready to find out the reason for my extended stay in Tucson!

I found some cheap tickets and made a quick dash to visit Shan and Jaymeson last weekend. We had been considering a trip to New York in May. Jaymeson overheard Shan talking about the trip and was upset. After processing the information, he looked at his mom and said "Mom, you're going to see my Uncle Daniel? I never get to see my Uncle Daniel."

I had to get out there and see him. We had a blast. We went to Incredible Pizza (aka Chuck E Cheese III - Imagine Chuck E Cheese multiplied by 10 with good food). The rest of the trip was relatively uneventful...a trip to the doctor's office for J's ear infection, a hair cut (did I mention his hair is now cut like Uncle Daniel's?) but it was good.

As I was leaving, J looked at me and told me that he wished I could stay there with him forever. Talk about a warm fuzzy feeling mixed with a knife through the heart. Of course...I felt the same way!!

Was this really a surprise?

I have been reading articles all day about how it was a surprise that Stephanie went home. Maybe I was the only one who wasn't surprised. Before leaving work yesterday, I made the comment that either Stephanie or Sanjaya would be going home. Sanjaya was saved because of the teary eyed girl he hugged.

Another article said Stephanie went home because she sang early in the two hour show. Enough with the excuses. It was a bad performance. 2nd only to Sanjaya - who probably was in the bottom three...possibly not revealed because of all of the notoriety the show is receiving from the controversy.

Everyone needs to remember you have to be at the top of your game every week to stay on the show. Melinda, Jordin, and Blake seem to know this. The rest of the contestants...I'm not so sure.

I know it has been a long time...and for that I apologize!! A lot has happened in the past few weeks and I promise to catch you up in the next couple of days.

The most exciting thing that has happened was a promotion at work! I have been promoted to a Vice President and I am very excited! I will no longer be in Sales which I had grown to love but in management which I have always wanted to do. I think my skill sets are better used in this capacity. There will be much less travel with this position which I see both as a good thing and a bad thing. I really enjoy travelling but I was really getting tired...and I am getting old (haha) so I probably need to slow down anyway.

Well, I'm off to bed...I will catch this thing up through the weekend. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Treadmill

I bought the new treadmill yesterday. I brought it upstairs today and let me just say after working to get the thing upstairs...there is no need for another workout today. Who knew how heavy treadmills are. My living room furniture is much lighter.

At least it is now in the apt...now I just have to start using it.

American Idol 6

I thought American Idol 6 was appropriate for post 600. Not really...but I couldn't come up with anything else significant that had the number six in it.

I watched all of the American Idol shows from last week (thank you TiVo) today. I agree that the girls are going to dominate this year.

I even have a prediction. I think that Melinda Doolittle will be the next American Idol. Just a hunch...she has the voice plus the sweetest personality. You have to love someone who is good and doesn't act like they know it!

Later that day during lunch, Cheney bumps into Condeleeza Rice and asks her the same riddle as to which Condeleeza replies almost immediately, "It's me."
Quickly Cheney rushes back to President Bush. As Cheney walks in he says, "Mr. President, the answer to your question is... Condeleeza Rice."
The president then gets really mad and screams "I'm dealing with a bunch of idiots here! The answer is Tony Blair!!!!!"

A friend at work was walking across the street to Target this afternoon. I joked with her that I expected a gift and that gift must cost more than $5.00. I didn't get a gift that cost more than $5.00 but I did get a gift. I got a kazoo!!

The only problem...I couldn't make it work. In my defense, I was trying to play it like you would play a brass instrument such as a trumpet. Finally, I looked up instructions on the internet. In case you were wondering...the directions are below. Please notice the proper names of the parts of the kazoo in the instructions...

Instructions
STEP 1: Find your kazoo.
STEP 2: Find the round thingy that sticks out (there's only one).
STEP 3: Put the end closest to the round thingy to your lips - this is usually, but not always, the fat end. Make sure the round thingy is on top.
STEP 4: Close your lips around the end to make a seal. Tuck your lips under just a tad so you're holding it cleanly instead of sucking on it wetly.
STEP 5: Hum into the kazoo.
Tips & Warnings
The round thingy houses a piece of waxed paper - it's what makes the kazoo vibrate and gives the sound volume. If you don't hear this, your kazoo may have gotten wet or damaged. Try another one.

UGH! So another haircut...by another incompetant hair stylist. I don't know who licenses stylists in Arizona but apparently their standards aren't very high. I think I am going to start flying back to South Carolina every month for my haircut. To be fair the cut isn't bad...the color looks awful. Of course I am leaving for business in a couple of weeks and will look like a freak (no comments from the peanut gallery). Chicago here I come! Hopefully the temps will warm up by the time I get there!

I just watched the finale of Reba. They did a great job with the ending...it just stinks that the new CW kicked them out because they didn't fit the mold....when Reba was the highest preforming comedy the network had. I remember watching the pilot with my Grandma six years ago...I just wish she was here to see the ending.

At the end of the show, Reba and family remarked that six years ago things felt like things were falling apart all over the place. An affair, a divorce, a teenage pregnancy among other things were at the forefront of their lives. Tonight, they realized that everything happened for a reason and their lives were better for it.

My life has led a similar path over the last six years. Six years ago I was in debt up to my ears, had a very rocky relationship with my family, and watched my friends go through some tough times themselves.

Six years later, I am finally out of debt, have an awesome job, a good realtionship with my family and am happy.

I think that it is possible to get down and think that life is not worth living, but at those times when you hit rock bottom the only way to look it up. It is amaing what changes five years can bring...and when you think about it....five years in a lifetime is really not that long.

That said....I can't wait to see what the next five years bring!!

Happy President's Day tomorrow! Hope you have the day off like I do!!

I went to the IMAX today and saw Happy Feet. It was awesome on the huge screen...I have seen several movies on the IMAX and have been less than impressed but this movie was definitely better on the big screen. The movie really was good. I loved the music...a lot of songs from my growing up period. The end of the movie was a little political but overall a good flick.

And by the way...who knew that the male penguins incubated the eggs and the females did the hunting. Wow....you learn something every day!!

Congrats to the Dixie Chicks on their multi-grammy win. While I will admit the timing of their controversial comments was not the best, we are a nation that prides ourselves on free speech. I think their punishment was too harsh for the crime. At any rate, they are talented and I think this award was well deserved.

Ok, I'll try to make this my last post on Lasek. I am so excited! I walked into a grocery store today and I realized when I was looking at the aisle directories that I was squinting. I thought about it for just a moment and realized that I didn't have to squint. I could read the signs without glasses or contacts!! I am so excited. I can read street signs, etc.

I'm convinced that the surgery is worth every penny!!!

I am having a landline phone installed tomorrow. I haven't had a landline since I was in college. I don't even own a phone any more. I sold the last one I had in a garage sale before I moved out here. Gotta run to Wal-Mart and buy a cheapy. I am having it installed for two reasons - neither of them actually involve speaking on the telephone. One - I need to have the fax machine hooked up so that I have that ability on days I work from home. Two - I need it to complete the initial setup on my TiVos. I haven't been able to hook them up because I didn't have a phone line. I didn't want to bother anyone else because you have to hook them up to a TV and a phone line and they can't be unplugged for 8 hours after setup. I am not that excited about the phone line...but I can't wait for TiVo!!!

what too much Vitamin C does to you! TMI - I know. Gross!! My multivitamin has 120 mg which is 200% of the daily recommended allowance. On top of that, my eye doctor has me taking 1000 mg of Vitamin C daily for 30 days after the surgery.

On another note, I started taking my vitamins again a few days ago. I can't tell you how much better they make me feel! I really feel like a totally different person. I have a lot more energy. I don't know why I ever stop...kind of like exercise. It makes me feel better, look better, and keeps me healthy but I can seem to keep at it for any length of time.

I really have to start. I have a new goal. I am going to lose 25-30 lbs by the time I leave for my conference in NYC in May. Please keep me motivated! I am having a difficult time this time around.

My Eyes

Thought I would give an update. Things are getting clearer every day. I can see a marked difference today. Though I am ready for everything to be clear. The doctor told me it would take 14 days for my vision to fully stabilize....tomorrow day 8 so just one more week to go. I wish I wasn't so impatient. Several have asked why it has taken so long for my vision to clear. Let me try to explain...

I had Lasek vs. Lasik. The traditional Lasik surgery has been performed for years. In this procedure, the doctor cuts a flap from the surface of the cornea before using the laser to reshape the cornea. The flap is then repositioned. With this surgery, recovery time is very fast and you have the "wow, I can see" factor people talk about. There is little discomfort with this surgery. The downside to this surgery is that there is always a chance that the flap that was created in your eye will come loose. This is bad for people like me who like to do things like skydive!

About three years ago, they began performing a procedure called Lasek. In this procedure, the doctor uses medicine to loosen the top layer of cells from the cornea. This layer is pushed away allowing the laser access to reshape the cornea. The top layer of cells is then repositioned. These cells are some of the quickest cells in the body to regenerate. The downside to this surgery is that it does take longer to heal. You don't have the "wow" factor. The third day after surgery is the worst as the eye basically "scabs over" for lack of a better description. The healing continues over the next fourteen days. With this surgery, you don't have to worry about the flap coming loose later in life.

New Furniture

My new furniture arrived today!! I am so excited!! I absolutely love it. I can't wait to take pictures and show you guys. My apartment is almost completely furnished! How great does that feel. As soon as it is paid off - no interest financing remember - I can save, save, save!!

Only one problem, the chest had about a one inch scratch on the fron. Luckily, the furniture store will exchange anything within 48 hours no questions asked. I called them and they are calling me tomorrow to schedule a time for the exchange.

Friday night

I was sleeping about 12:30 Friday night. Yes, I know I am young and should not be sleeping at that time on Friday night...but remember I just had surgery but I digress. I was sleeping Friday night when I heard this horrible crash. My apartment is on the corner where two drives converge in the apt. complex and I assumed a wreck had occurred at the corner.

Wrong!! Our complex has light poles that are made out of cement that are probably two foot around. Heavy Duty. These poles are not positioned so that anyone would hit them....unless they were drunk. That is my assumption as to what happened. This guy had to be going 45 miles per hour. The speed limit is 10 I believe. He hit one of these poles and completely demolished it. Again, I am assuming because he was drunk, he quickly drove away. Though parts of his truck were littered around the now uprooted and destroyed light pole.

The police were called as people gathered outside. As one of the policeman took reports, another came up and advised they had caught the offender...as when he drove off...he drove to his parking spot in the apartment complex.

Things are beginning to clear up today. Woo hoo! Yesterday was the worst...I really had to work to read anything. I can't wait for the next week and a half to go by so I can see the full results.

Today, I was able to make it out....thank goodness....though resting was nice...I was ready to get out of the house. Making it out of the house may not have been a good thing though. Thanks to no-interest financing, I bought new bedroom furniture today. My bedroom was the next room that needed to be completed and this was too good a deal to pass up. It will be here on Wednesday so I will have pics soon.

I even got more than I planned for. I only planned to buy the dresser, mirror, chest, and two night stands. When we priced it out, it was cheaper to get the package including the bed (headboard, foot board, and rails).

The only thing about that...I now own four beds....in my two bedroom apt. Got to work on that. I am going to get rid of the two old ones. My fabric headboard I bought a few months ago will go in the guest bedroom so that the matching set will be in one room.

I have to admit I am excited to have my apartment almost completely furnished!!

Did you see the old guy who lost his wife to cancer two days before the audition. I will admit that it tugged at the heart strings...but really...it's like Extreme Makeover Home Edition...it doesn't mean nearly as much when you know the show is trying to make you cry. Just my opinion...

US Airways withdrew their bid for Delta today. The good news keeps on coming!! I've been a loyal Delta customer for years. Before America West acquired US Air, US Air was in more trouble than Delta is now...and their service suffered horribly. Delta has been able to keep their heads up during this troubling time in their history...and soon they will be back on their feet.

The best clock ever!!

I received this alarm clock for Christmas. It is the best clock ever!! It is a sound spa as well as a radio meaning it has sounds like a thunderstorm, the ocean, and others. The best feature is that is projects the time onto the ceiling. I don't have to roll over to look at the clock. I just look up and instantly know what time it is. How cool is that!!

Exhausted

So I have proof I was exhausted this week.

After work yesterday I came home to take a nap. I had been so tired and had been thinking about a nap all week!! I had been asleep about an hour when I had a dream that I was in an airport (me in an airport...who would have thought). Anyway, apparently I was dreaming that I had fallen asleep in the airport in a place I should not have so I jumped up and grabbed my shoes and was headed to the door before I woke up and realized I was in my apartment and could sleep any place that I wanted.

That is only the second time I have ever acted out my dreams...both times I have been exhausted. Good excuse for me to rest this weekend!

Introspective

Sorry for all of the posts tonight. I haven't been in the mood to blog a lot lately. The incident today has led to a lot of introspection. The biggest thing I realized is that even with the crap that went on today I am happy. I love my life. I love my job. I love my friends. I am happy. I have to tell you that is the coolest revelations you can have.

One week away!

I went for my pre-op appt for my Lasek surgery today. My surgery is scheduled for next Thursday. I am soooo excited!

The tech asked me if I wanted Valium today. I asked him if I needed it. He said in his opinion no that they prescribed it if you thought you would be nervous before and during the surgery. I told him no - I'm really not nervous at all. The surgery takes all of 55 seconds per eye on average.

My vision will be blurry for about 4-5 days. I am told the day after surgery is hit and miss as to what my vision will be like. He told me the third day though I will wake up and exclaim oh s*** because my vision will be very blurry because of the way the cells grow back as I heal. Fun - what a nice weekend. It will definitely be worth it in the end.

American Idol

At least American Idol makes me feel better. Laughter is the best medicine!! The best part of the show tonight, apart from the terrible singers, was the second audition tonight. The girl had come to NYC to audition without the support of her parents - and it was obvious this was something that she really wanted to do. In the end, she made it to Hollywood and her Dad was finally supportive when she called to tell him she was going to Hollywood! A heartwarming end to my crappy day!

Friends vs. Acquaintances

I had a teacher in high school that was a complete witch. She was an awful teacher and I can only wonder what kind of person she was. She once told us that she was out to lunch with someone and that person introduced her as a friend to someone. She cut the person off and quickly stated that she was an acquaintance not a friend. The worst part is that she was proud of this.

I learned something today about friends and acquaintances. My teacher was right in one respect - there is a big difference. I would never embarrass or hurt someone in the situation described above by telling them they were not my friend but I have learned not to expect too much out of acquaintances. I overheard a phone conversation today from someone who I thought was my friend - not a close friend - but a friend. Obviously, I was wrong in thinking they were my friend. The conversation revolved around how I would never be successful. To be fair, I was not the only one they thought this of, but name was involved. The thing is what was said did not upset me. I know that I will be successfull in anything that I do and do not care what people think of me. It upset me that I allowed myself to be closer than I should of to this person and trusted them. I guess it is good that I am aware of the situation as that same person called me later in the day, not knowing I had overheard the conversation, and acted like we were best friends. At least I know now not to be surprised when that person does anything in their power to bring me down.

Looking at the bright side of the situation - it makes me appreciate my true friends even more!!

Wild Weather

I've heard the phrase "when hell freezes over" many times - but I think this week it might have been close! We had snow in Tucson!!

When I got home on Sunday it was cold and rainy. I was exhausted and went straight for the couch. Later that evening, I was tired and hungry so I ordered pizza. When I opened the door, I was amazed. It was snowing like crazy. The next day the mountains were covered. School was cancelled. Many children had never had snow.

This was the second time I moved somewhere and thought that it would never snow!! I must say thought that if it is going to snow this is great. The snow was completely gone by the end of the next day.

Have you noticed that pop culture has taken over the news lately?

Here are some of my thoughts on the most newsworthy items of late.

Rosie vs. Donald - Donald knew his show was not going to do well this season so he did what he could to get his name back in the spotlight. This man thinks he is better than everyone and that no rules apply to him. He needs to be brought down off of his high horse.

American Idol - I never thought I would say this but I agree with Dr. Phil. He was just on Entertainment Tonight and he said that everyone that can't sing and goes on that show are just looking for their fifteen minutes of fame and deserve everything they are told. Amen!

Rosie vs. Paula Abdul - I don't know about this one. I have always defended Paula Abdul but watching the You Tube video - she did look strung out. Tough call!

Time

While attending a wedding of friends from college, something hit me about the passing of time. It is amazing the number of things that can change in a relatively short period of time. When you think of our lifespan, five years is a very small amount of time. When I look back over the past five years, it is absolutely amazing the number of changes that have occurred.

It has been ten years since I graduated high school - but that 10 years seems as if it was a lifetime ago.

This post is more of an observation than anything. I am just curious to see what changes the next five years will bring.

What a week!!!

Wow. This week was quite the adventure.

After our visit to Sea World last Saturday, we headed back to Jax to pick up my bag. After two days, I was finally able to take a shower and change into clean clothes. We hung out the rest of the weekend enjoying each other's company - it was nice and relaxing.

In contrast to relaxing, I attended a conference on Tuesday through Thursday. It was good and should bring some business into our company. We went out for dinner and drinks on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the dinner and drinks didn't settle well and Wednesday was tough. My counterparts decided I had probably caught a bug - at any rate Wednesday was not fun!

I spent Friday working in the hotel until Shan and Cody made it to Ft. Worth. From there, we went to eat at The Melting Pot before heading to Pete's Dueling Piano Bar for the evening. Pete's as always was awesome - there is nothing better than a Dueling Piano Bar.

Today, we spent the day shopping before heading to Stacey and Steve's wedding. The wedding was gorgeous. Good friends, good food...what more can anyone ask for!
