Happy Blogiversary!!!!

I had so many things planned for the anniversary of I'm Not Opinionated...the timing was just not right. I am so busy trying to get ready to move. I have been packing all evening! Last night, some friends from work and I drove to Columbia to the Olive Garden and had a great time! I am really going to miss these guys!!! Pics to come soon! I have so many pics to add...just no time....I will be in Tucson on the 9th so hopefully the posts will have pictures like they used to when I get settled. Well, better get some sleep! Have much to do in the next few days.

Emotional Times

I am glad I was able to make my decision about moving while I was thinking logically and not emotionally. I know I have made the right decision for my life but I tell you it is hard telling everyone goodbye. The last couple of days, I have had to tell people goodbye and it is really starting to tear me up. The sad part is the people I am telling goodbye to a week early are not the people who are the closest too me. On Friday, some friends from work went out to dinner and we had a great time - but it made me realize how much I am going to miss everyone. I sure hope we will keep in touch. I am going to do my best to do my part. BTW, pictures of the dinner with friends to come!

Hope you're having a great weekend!

Two things from Tucson

I forgot to tell you these two things:

Saturday night I slept wrong and hurt my neck. On Sunday I could not move my neck at all without causing complete agony. It has gotten better but it still hurts a week later...ugh!

The other thing was much cooler. On one of my evening sitting by the pool with my drinks I saw a shooting star in the desert. It was awesome!!!! Sorry though - you know the rules - I can't tell you what my wish was!

Change

Who said that change was easy...and why can't it be!

For the first time in two months I feel at ease about the direction my life is heading! I am excited and nervous at the same time. There are many people I am going to miss and that part about moving is hard. I have grown to love so many people in South Carolina and starting a new life will be difficult. I have pledged to do my part to keep the relationships I have from fading away.

Also, many of my co-workers are still in a state of confusion about where their careers are going to lead. I feel lucky that I have found my direction and am praying for the same sense of peace to be passed on to all of them as soon as possible.

Change isn't easy but change sometimes forces us to grow - as hard as it is, I really believe life without change would be rather boring!

Arriving Tucson 7/9/06

Watch out Tucson --- the Big D is coming into town!

As many of you already know, I have accepted the position in Tucson and will be moving to the desert in early July. I am very excited about the move (ok not the move itself...there is nothing I hate more than moving but I am excited about the new opportunities the move brings)!

I was sold once I got to the office and met the people. I have worked with many of these people for years and it was great to put a face with the names. Everybody is very welcoming and it seems to be a great group of people. It is amazing how young the workforce is. Everyone throughout the corporate structure seems to be very young unlike my former employer.

I have found an apartment and as long as everything works out I should be out here on July 9th after my long drive across the country!

Well, there is a lot more to come I am sure but I have to get packed so I can get back to SC and really get packed.

Wow!!

It is going to be 108 degrees today...hot!

Initial Observations

  • 105 degrees in the desert is easier to take than 90 degrees in the south
  • The mountains are gorgeous
  • I can sit outside every evening by the pool and the temps are awesome
  • There don't seem to be bugs (i.e. mosquitos, etc)
  • There is litte grass
  • It is not reccomended by anyone that one should live in South Tucson
  • The sun comes up at 5 am

So much more...I have more to tell....will have more details soon! I am going to try to take some pics of the area today. More to come from Tucson!

I made it!

I am here!!! My bag is not....but I am. My bag should be here this evening. I hope so because I am wearing a t-shirt with a picture of a fan and the caption reads "This Blows." It's a great shirt but probably not appropriate to wear on my first day to visit my prospective employer. We were late into Denver so I am sure it just didn't have time to make it....i myself just barely got there in time.

Just ordered Papa Johns and after my bag gets here am going straight to bed.

First impressions of Tucson - there is no grass!!! To counter that, the city seems to be surrounded my mountains which is gorgeous. Also, when I checked weather.com at 8:30pm, the temp was 94 but it felt like 89. Thought that was interesting. I can tell the difference in the "dry heat" everyone keeps talking about. I still wouldn't want to run a marathon in the heat but you don't sweat automaticall when you just walk outside. Kind of nice.

More to come I am sure!

Did I mention....

...that is is going to be 106 degrees in Tucson today????

Sitting in the airport...

Got to the aiport a little early this morning. Luckily I found a free internet connection. Gives me something to do while I wait for my trip to the desert. I am stitting in the middle of the airport where all of the concourses meet and the food court is found. There is a classical pianist playing in the atrium - very relaxing! If you have never been to a southern airport, you might be surprised to find that it is not uncommon to find rocking chairs in the airport (the wooden kind that you might haveyour own front porch). I have chosen one next to an electrical outlet for the computer but it places me in a great locale for people watching. It is really amazing the things you see. I whish I had my camera that way everyone could see what I am seeing - it is amazing - it really it!

I finally did it!!!

Ordered new mattresses!!! Mine are probably at least 20 years old. I wake up with a hurting back every other morning or so. I can't wait!!! Will probably wait until I get to Tucson to use them....but I can rest easier knowing they are coming. I said rest easier...not more comfortably!

Where to begin...

This might be a long post. I have been trying to decide whether to make several posts or just one to catch up. I think I will stick with one and try to do better going forward. Please forgive me there has been a lot going on!!

Obviously you know Shannon and Jaymeson were here. I picked them up at the airport on Saturday night. We stayed in Greensboro before beginning our road trip to Myrtle. It was long...but well worth it. Jaymeson loved the beach. We splashed in the ocean, made sand castles, played in the pools and lazy river (with the poolside bar right next to it....fun for Daniel and Shan too...lol). For the evening we took J to miniature golf before eating at Margaritaville...my new favorite joint at Myrtle. The atmosphere is really cool. Plus the margaritas are awesome!

The next day we built a huge sand castle on the beach before repeating the ocean and pool activities of the day before. We went shopping at Broadway (a little fun for the big guys) before heading to the Dixie Stampede. Our side won at the Stampede...woo hoo.

The next day we woke up early to go play in the ocean. We hit Ocean Avenue to let J play in the arcades before heading to Charleston. Once there we hit Frankie's Fun Park. J road the go-carts and we rode the bumper boats together.

The next day in Charleston was full. We hit the Market first which was fun as always. Then we headed to the Aquarium. I asked someone in the market how far it was....they said 7 blocks. That was a crock. Lets try at least 25. It was hot!!! J was tired so we were carrying him....Shan could have killed that girl. After that we went to Folly Beach to look for shells and see the lighthouse before heading back to Florence.

The next day we took J to see Ms. Susan who watched him when he was little before eating at Rancho and visiting with my family. All this before heading to the airport. When we got to the airport J started thinking of any excuse that could get him to stay. He broke down in tears when he had to leave me which made me feel really good and really bad at the same time.

While in Charleston, I got a call from my Mom and Dad. He was to have his second cornea transplant the next day. Everything went really well. His eye hurts a bit but I am sure it will be well worth it.

What have I been doing in my free time you ask? Packing!!! I received my official offer from the company in Arizona. I am flying out there on Wednesday to visit and see if I can stand the desert. I am about 85% sure I will take this job. I have one other opportunity. I am hoping to know by next weekend what I am doing for sure.

I did take some time this evening to do something fun. Rachel and I drove to Columbia to eat at the Olive Garden....yum! We also saw RV with Robin Williams. Hilarious! Highly recommended.

Well...sorry for the book....I will try to do better with updating. Let me hear from you....keep the comments coming!
