Lasik

I think I am going in to have a Lasik consultation next week and I am going to aim to have the surgery in January. Thoughts? Has anyone had Lasik?

I went to the eye dr last week and it just made me realize how nice it would be not to have contacts anymore. Plus if I can use the FSA (Flexible Spending Account) my company offers to pay for it - I won't have to come up with the funds at one time.

Hope your weekend is going well.

A couple of items: YES! Get Lasik. I did it in January and I have no regrets. It's a little scary going through the process, but you'll love the end result. A few seconds of squeamishness for a long time of not having to worry about contacts! And, definitely use the FSA. I did that as well--huge cost savings and everything. Good luck!

It's been over two years since I did it. I had it done at 3pm, by 7pm that night I was watching tv with no trouble. By 7am the next morning at my follow-up exam I was already seeing 20/25.

My only suggestion would be to do your research. Ask to talk to some of the other patients the doctor has performed the surgery on. Also ask how many times the doctor has had to go back and re-do it (I was surprised how many times that actually happens.)

The other things I wish I would have been more aware of ahead of time - 1) They didn't let me wear my contacts for a full month ahead of the surgery. 2)As your eyes heal, your vision changes. It takes about 3 months before it stablizes.

Thanks for the info guys - it pays to talk to people who have done it before. One good thing is that about 7 people at work have used the doctor I am going to talk to and none of them have any complaints. I'll keep you guys updated on my progress.
